Internship at Flowtropolis - Sound Design for XR

I recently completed my sound design internship at Flowtropolis. During this period I worked closely with the team to help shape the audio identity of their XR development platform.

Flowtropolis is building a collaborative XR platform that enables teams to build, explore and understand complex spaces across a wide range of industries. Their focus is clarity, intuitive interaction and a creative flow that feels natural from the moment the user enters the scene.

My role was to design, implement and refine a wide range of audio elements inside Unity. This included UI sounds, system notifications, locomotion audio, tool interactions, ambisonics, spatial ambience, and detailed signature sounds that support the overall experience. The goal was to create sound that feels clean and modern while still being expressive enough to guide the user with precision.

Throughout the internship I explored how sound can support cognitive clarity, highlight important actions, help the user understand system behaviour and reinforce the feeling of flow inside the environment. I worked on everything from quick menus and tool spawning to transitions, movement cues and feedback for in world interactions. Many of these sounds needed to be subtle and functional while still supporting the emotional tone of the platform.

My work involved collaboration with the design team, careful testing in VR, and constant iteration to find the right balance between presence and minimalism.

I am proud that I delivered everything the team asked for and helped establish a coherent audio language that supports the vision of Flowtropolis.

This experience strengthened my skills in XR sound design of how audio shapes behaviour, usability and immersion.

I want to thank Flowtropolis for their trust, guidance and valuable feedback throughout the project.

Flowtropolis is doing exciting work and I am grateful to have contributed to their development.

“Thank you so much Oscar Jackson, for your passion and diligent work on this! It was fun to be on this journey together.”

Robert Södergren, Flowtropolis CEO
